The Story of the World is, simply put, one of the most engaging, wonderful ways to teach your child world history, starting with the the dawn of man and the earliest nomads, all the way up through modern times. The textbooks read like story books, in fact our own child likes to just sit and read them! When was the last time you hear of a child wanting to read their history text book?

There are currently four volumes to The Story of the World, each available as both a textbook and an audio book on CD, along with a workbook for each volume. While you can do either the textbook or the CDs, we used both in our own homeschooling, and highly suggest getting both. Because the books are so storybook-like, the audio CDs are very easy to listen to, and are wonderful in the car.

The workbooks will work with either the textbooks or the CDs. One really nice thing about this series is that while it is perfect for people who homeschool on their own, the workbooks are really fun to do with a friend, so that you can form a small history study group, if you are so inclined, and use The Story of the World as its basis, letting children do the workbook activities (make a replica of the Nile and flood it! Write in cuneiform!) together in pairs or groups.
